The Energy Tap is one of five alien artifacts recovered by Hank "The Mighty" Henderson on an out-Sol asteroid. It was identified with an interstellar vessel estimated to be around 3 billion years old. Only three of the artifacts have been identified by MCS — The Energy Tap, The Conductor and The Drive.
The Energy Tap was seized by Cat Anne and her Jumper Fleet in the Battle of Saturn in Shadow. It is capable of drawing energy from remote sources at a distance of thousands of kilometers. Energy derived from stellar objects, combustion events and nuclear generators can be transferred to systems nearby (for instance a Renavigation tug) and can be used to increase speed, shielding or weapons.
The Energy tap also provides definitive proof of the existence of a civilization other than our own.
